Mackinac Island ranks among top ten in Island destinations according to major travel magazine.
Condé Nast Traveler magazine has released its 2008 Readers’ Choice Awards, placing Mackinac Island on its list of Top 10 Islands in North America.

The other rankings, in order, are: Vancouver Island, Kiawah Island, Nantucket, Gulf Islands, Prince Edward Island, Amelia Island, Hilton Head, Mount Desert Island, San Juan Islands and Sanibel Island.

A select sample of Condé Nast Traveler readers have taken the Readers’ Choice Survey, this year Conde Nast incorporated an online questionnaire e to all readers via the web and 32,633 responses by subscribers were tabulated.

“We are so pleased that the readers of Conde Nast Traveler rank Mackinac Island as one of the top 10 Islands in North America, this is truly an honor. ” said Mary McGuire Slevin, executive director of the Mackinac Island Tourism Bureau.

“Word of mouth is one of the most influential ways of enticing travelers to consider visiting a destination. That the readers of Condé Nast Traveler place Prince Edward Island in the top five Islands in North America, speaks volumes to the quality product our tourism industry continues to offer visitors.”

In the North America section, the categories for judging islands includes: activities, ambience, beaches, friendliness, lodging, restaurants, and scenery. The 72.4 score Prince Edward Island received moved the Island to fifth place, one better than last year’s rankings, in the top ten.

Condé Nast Traveler magazine has won numerous awards and has a circulation of more than 800,000. The November 2008 Issue of Condé Nast Traveler can be found on local news stands.
